How to Play the Spy Game (Like Spyfall) in a Telegram Group
Spy is a talking game for a group of friends. Every player gets the same secret place, for example a beach, a school or a hospital, except one player: the spy. The players ask each other questions about the place and try to find out who does not know it. The spy listens and tries to work out the place before the others catch him.
In a chat it is hard to deal roles in secret: there are no paper cards. @SpyPartyProBot does this job in Telegram. It sends each player the place and a role in a private message, keeps the time, counts the votes and posts the result in the group.
This guide shows the full round as the group sees it, the limits of the bot, and the mistakes that stop a round from starting.

Steps
- Add @SpyPartyProBot to the group. Use the button on this page or add the bot from its profile. It needs no admin right. A round needs 3 to 12 players.
- Send /spy in the group. The bot posts a round card with two buttons: Join and Start. The card shows how many players joined and their names.
- Each player taps Join. The button opens a private chat with the bot. The player presses Start there, and the bot answers: You're in. This step is necessary: a Telegram bot cannot write first to a person in private, so only a player who opened the chat gets a role.
- The host taps Start. The person who sent /spy, or a group admin, starts the round when 3 to 12 players are in. Each player gets a private message with the place and a role in that place. One player gets a different message: You are the SPY, with a list of the possible places.
- Ask questions for 8 minutes. Players take turns in the group chat. One asks another a question about the place, for example: How did you get here? A good answer shows the others that you know the place and gives the spy nothing. The spy answers too and tries to blend in.
- Vote, or guess the place. Any player taps Vote on the round card and picks the player he accuses. Each player has one vote. The result shows when everyone has voted or when the 8 minutes are up. The spy can end the round sooner: his private message has the button Guess the place. He has one guess.
- Read the reveal and play again. The bot posts in the group who the spy was and what the place was. The players win if the group accuses the spy, or if the spy names a wrong place. The spy wins if the group accuses another player, if the vote has no clear majority, or if he guesses the place. Send /spy for the next round.
Good to know
- Free rounds use 10 places. Pro is a one-time payment of 150 Telegram Stars and opens all 40 places for the rounds that you host.
- A player who did not press Start in the private chat gets no role. The bot names these players in the group, and they can play in the next round. If fewer than 3 players got a role, the bot cancels the round.
- One group has one round at a time. If a round is running, the bot answers /spy with a note to vote or to wait for the reveal.
- The bot has 11 languages. Each player gets the private message in the language of his own Telegram, so people with different languages can play in one round.
- The bot deals the roles and counts the votes. The questions and answers are ordinary messages of your group; the bot does not judge them.
- @SpyPartyProBot plays Spy only. For truth or dare, would you rather and never have I ever, the same maker has @PartyPackProBot.
